PROJECT TITLE: New Material: Hollow
Fibers |
|
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
New Material:
Hollow Fibers Various Substances can be Introduced through the
Micropores to Alter the Properties of the Fibers Laser irradiation
on synthetic fibers may produce a ripple-like pattern on the
originally smooth surface. Laser irradiation on hollow fibers of the
same materials can result in the formation of micropores along the
ripple-patterned surface. The size and density of these micropores
can be controlled by a pre-designed scheme of laser dosage. We have
successfully produced micorpores of diameters in the order of a
micron on a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber with external
diameter of 25 microns and bore diameter of 12 microns.
