PROJECT TITLE: Development of
Hybrid Solar-Wind Renewable Energy Technology |
|
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Introduction:
(Maximum 100 words) The complementary characteristics between solar
energy resource and wind energy resource can make a hybrid
solar-wind renewable energy system more reliable for power supply in
remote areas. The PolyU has developed a simulation model for
analyzing the probability and reliability of hybrid
photovoltaic-wind power generation systems. The complementary
characteristics between solar irradiance and wind power have been
analyzed and an optimization procedure and design guideline of a
hybrid photovoltaic wind energy system has been developed. Two
demonstration and experimental projects have been set up, one in
Macau and one in Shanwei of Guangdong. This technology can be used
in mobile communication relay stations and other remote
communication areas. Special Features and Advantages: (Maximum 50
words) • To provide more reliable power supply in remote
areas • To reduce the initial capital investment for a
reliable power supply compared with single solar energy or single
wind energy renewable energy system • More convenient
power supply compared with diesel power for remote areas •
Green energy for environmental protection Application(s): (Maximum
50 words) • Power supply to remote communication stations
• Power supply to residents on islands without utility
power • Power supply to mountain areas without utility
