PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Introduction:
Drop-foot is one of the common clinical feature of stroke patients
and severely affects their walking ability. During walking, affected
foot may drag on the ground. Compensatory motion like hip hiking and
limb circumduction may occur. After years of research and clinical
trials, the PolyU has developed the Electronic Ankle-Foot Orthosis (EAFO), a home-based rehabilitation device specially designed for
correcting this deformity. It consists of a pocket-sized main unit,
a foot switch and two adhesive surface electrodes. EAFO can match a
patient's walking pattern and provide the patient a smooth,
balanced, energy saving gait, increase walking speed and reduce
spasticity. EAFO can also be used by incomplete spinal cord injury
patient. |
