PROJECT TITLE: High-performance Linear Motor Actuator

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
High-performance Linear Motor Actuator A new actuator for manufacturing automation Using novel linear direct-drive autuator system incorporating variable reluctance(VR) technology, the PolyU has developed a high performace autuator for automation prosers. The autuator has a very simple structure and can be easily manufautured. The need for expensive magnets is eliminated and there is no limit on travel distance. The actuator ix extremely robust and can be used in hostile environments, and its performance equals to that of permanent magnet linear motor. Embedded in the unique design are the nonlinear control and current drive. A novel nonlinear control method, using adaptive feedback linearization and dynamic friction compensation has been developed and implemented for precise motion control of variable reluctance linear actuator. Presently the travelling accuracy is 3/4 micron and its maximum acceleration is 3G. The actuator is particularly suitable for high-speed and high-precision motion applications.
