PROJECT TITLE: A High Performance Planar Motor

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Introduction: (Maximum 100 words) A low-cost, high-performance (accuracy 0.001mm, 2.5G acceleration) two-dimensional direct-drive motion system has been invented. The motor has very little mechanical parts; therefore mechanical alignment, maintenance, and fabrication costs are minimized. This is a big improvement over the present technology, which uses highly expensive and highly complicated mechanical slides, stacked on top of each other to form an X-Y table. The motor will have significant impact on the manufacturing industry. The manufacturing cost of many electronic products can be made cheaper when the machineries that produce them can be purchased and operated at a lower cost. Special Features and Advantages: (Maximum 50 words) 1) High accuracy (1 micron precision) two-dimensional motion. 2) Simple construction, no expensive material, low manufacturing cost 3) Can withstand harsh environment (extreme temperature) 4) Flexible size, the base plate is constructed from standard blocks using the LEGO approach. Application(s): (Maximum 50 words) 1) Electronic Assembly and IC packaging industry 2) CNC mould making machines, planar robots, laser cutting system 3) Any manufacturing process which needs precise 2-D motion.
