PROJECT TITLE: Environmentally
Friendly Bricks & Blocks |
|
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Environmentally
Friendly Bricks & Blocks Recycling of construction and
demolition waste Construction and demolition (C&D) wastes
represents a large proportion (44%) of the solid waste stream in
Hong Kong. To reduce waste and refuse, recycling the C&D waste
has become a very important issue faced by the Government and the
community at large. The PolyU has invented a method of using the
recycled aggregate for the production of environmentally friendly
bricks and blocks that could both reduce the impact on land-fill and
also to provide alternative products for commercial usage. The
environmentally friendly bricks and blocks are cast using recycled
building construction aggregates. Their compressive strength and
transverse strength meets the relevant specifications and can be
used in the construction industry of Hong Kong. Furthermore, the
PolyU research team has successfully invented a new method using the
photo-catalytic sensitive chemicals with recycled aggregates to
enable bricks and blocks to absorb and remove air pollutants when
subjected to sunlight. |
