PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Introduction:
(Maximum 100 words) 3D ultrasound is a valuable tool for clinical
diagnosis and tissue assessment. Conventional 2D ultrasound imaging
can only provide cross-sectional images without any spatial
relationships between slices. In this project, we developed a
portable easy-to-use 3D free-hand ultrasound imaging system for the
assessment of musculoskeletal body parts. The freehand 3D ultrasound
system is comprised of three main parts including MiniBird, Sonosite, and PC with software for data acquisition, 3D
reconstruction, visualization, and analyses. This 3D ultrasound
system has been successfully used for the assessment of
musculoskeletal body parts including muscles, tendons, joints, etc.
Special Features and Advantages: (Maximum 50 words) 1) Portable,
relatively cheap, and easy-to-use. 2) Real-time display of 2D
ultrasound images. 3) Rapid volume reconstruction. 4) Efficient
tools for quantitative analysis. Application(s): (Maximum 50 words)
1) Foot assessment 2) Residual limb assessment 3) Hand function
