PROJECT TITLE: Rotary Motor Driven
by a Piezoelectric Composite Laminate |
|
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The invention
relates to a novel rotary motor driven by piezoelectric composite
laminate material. Mechanical vibrations are created by
piezoelectric elements that are caused to alternately expand and
contract by the application of an alternating electric field. The
magnitude of these vibrations is usually small, but large gain can
be obtained by applying resonance principles. The directions of the
vibrations are normally mechanically rectified so as to obtain the
required motor output. The novel motor has a number of advantages
over conventional electromagnetic (EM) motors. The new motors are
capable of operating at high speed and high efficiency, and can
produce a very high output torque. Another important advantage of
piezoelectric motors is that unlike EM motors, they are not
sensitive to any ambient EM fields, thus they may be used in
applications where conventional motors cannot be used without
difficulty. Potential Applications: - Toys, household electrical
appliances - Precision control systems Advantages over Present
Technologies: 1. The structure of this motor is very simple. 2. The
production cost is low. 3. The motor does not generate magnetic
field. 4. The motor has good low-speed performance. 5. The motor is
suitable for run-and-stop (alternating) applications.
